Huawei P40 & P40 Pro leak: specs, images and more

Despite the trade conflict with America, Huawei continues to release smartphones tirelessly, now without Google services. The Chinese tech giant, Huawei has unveiled its latest flagship, the Huawei P40 and P40 Pro. Hardware of a very high level, but software remains a weakness for now.

In recent weeks, the specs & images about the new Huawei P40 Series has leaked. With the introduction of the P Series phones, Huawei set the tone in smartphone photography. Today the highly anticipated P40 Series will be unveiled, during a live stream titled “Visionary Photography”. A lot of product information has already been distributed on the internet.

Introducing the new Huawei P40 and P40 Pro.

Just like the past few years, this year Huawei will also launch two P smartphones. The flagship series therefore consists of both the Huawei P40 and the P40 Pro.

Huawei P40 specifications

In terms of specifications, we can expect the following:

  • 6.1-inch OLED screen (2340 × 1080 resolution)
  • Kirin 990 OctaCore CPU
  • 8 GB RAM
  • 128 GB storage capacity
  • 3800mAh battery
  • Android 10 (AOSP, no Google services)

And this is what the camera has to offer us:

  •      50 megapixel UltraVision (f / 1.9)
  •      16 megapixel ultra-wide (f / 2.2)
  •      8 megapixel telephoto OIS (f / 2.4)
  •      32 megapixel selfie camera (f / 2.2)

Furthermore, the Huawei P40 has an IP53 certificate, a USB Type-C connection and a fingerprint sensor.

In terms of specifications, we can expect the following:

  •      6.58-inch 90 Hz OLED screen (2640 × 1200 resolution)
  •      Kirin 990 OctaCore CPU
  •      8 GB RAM
  •      256 GB storage capacity
  •      4200mAh battery
  •      Android 10 (AOSP, no Google services)

This is what the camera has to offer us:

  •      50 megapixel UltraVision (f / 1.9)
  •      40 megapixel video and ultra-wide (f / 1.8)
  •      12 megapixel SuperSensing telephoto (f / 3.4)
  •      32 megapixel selfie camera (f / 2.2) with IR sensor

P40 Pro is a slightly more advanced device than the P40. Initially, the extra camera power on the back is particularly noticeable. It also have a larger battery, a larger display, and more memory.

The specifications of the P40 reguler version are of course somewhat less impressive, but still very high. Two things that immediately stand out: the P40 has a classic OLED screen, the Pro variant has a display that curves on the sides. There is also a slight difference in sharpness: 2,340 x 1,080 pixels for the P40 with a 6.1-inch screen. 2,640x 1,200 pixels for the P40 pro that throw in a 6.58-inch display. We also note that the Pro offer a screen frequency of 90Hz versus 60Hz for the Huawei P40.

The Huawei P40 would be equipped with a 3800mAh battery that charges with 27W. P40 Pro would get a 4200mAh battery that can fast charge with 40W.

Both devices will most likely have a primary camera with a 50-megapixel sensor. The P40 Pro has a 40-megapixel sensor with ultra-wide angle lens and a telephoto lens with approximately 5x optical zoom, the P40 is equipped with a 16-megapixel sensor for the ultra-wide angle camera and a telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.

Both top models in the new series reportedly run on a Kirin 990-soc and ready for 5G and the new Wi-Fi 6 Plus standard, thanks to the Kirin 990 chip.

The Huawei P40 and P40 pro will soon appear in Europe. Both phones are available in the following color options:

  •      Silver
  •      gold
  •      White
  •      Black

Keep in mind that these can still change, because this availability differs per country.

The P40 starts in Europe at least with a price of € 799 (8 GB RAM / 128 GB storage). The P40 Pro will be available in the same color options for a starting price of $ 999 (8 GB RAM / 256 GB storage).
