LG Reveals Raindrop Camera & 3D Arc Design for The Next Phone

A few years back, the line of LG flagship phones always had a similar design style. LG has not really been synonymous with innovative designs in recent years. Future flagship phones coming out of LG are going to look a little different than current ones. South Korean electronics reveal a camera design that will be used on its upcoming phones.

Raindrop Camera Design for The Next LG Phone

LG shares render of what they call the “smartphone of the future”. LG claims that the design is different from current smartphone design trends. The design includes a better-looking camera arrangement on the rear. The camera design carries the shape of a ‘raindrop’ camera. It uses a smaller than usual lens and an LED flash under the lens with a smaller sphere.

The cameras are arranged one below the other, in circles and arranged from large to small. The manufacturer says that it deviates from the current trend, with cameras from high-end smartphones having a square camera on the back. You can see this for example with the Huawei P40. On the render we see that the new smartphones get three cameras on the back. The fourth circle you see is the LED flash.

“Our upcoming smartphone will draw on the rich history of classic LG designs which have always been distinctive at first touch,” said vice president Cha Yong-duk, head of LG’s Mobile Communications Design Lab.

LG calls its design as ‘3D Arc Design’, with symmetrical arches on the screen and back of the phone. The design, in addition to a visual aspect also provides a more natural feeling in the hand. It is not clear why this design called unique, because many other mobile manufacturers use arches similar to this LG design.

Not a lot of information about mobile phones that will use this design, but it seems that LG will use this design style in all lines of new mobile phones. LG rumored will unveil a new phone in mid-May, so perhaps we will see the changes then.

“This handset will be a first-look at the competitive edge we will be bringing to every LG smartphone going forward,” said vice president Cha Yong-duk.

Previously reported, LG will launch a new phone with a new design on May 15. The phone will use Snapdragon 765 SoC with an integrated 5G modem.
